The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) held its Working Group meeting on Cosmetic Ingredients on 21–22 April 2026 in Luxembourg, focusing on the safety evaluation of cosmetic ingredients used across the EU market.

Key discussions included new mandates for Glyoxylic Acid (used in hair straightening products) and Hydroxycitronellal, with rapporteurs appointed to assess potential safety and sensitization risks.

The SCCS also announced a call for data on phytonadione epoxide (Vitamin K epoxide) in cosmetic products, with submissions requested by 18 May 2026.

Scientific evaluations covered ingredients such as Cresyl Methoxycinnamate, Salicylic Acid, and Acetophenone, while final scientific opinions on Cannabidiol (CBD), Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA), and Microsilver BG were officially adopted and published.

The meeting reinforces the EU’s commitment to consumer safety, ingredient transparency, and science-based cosmetic regulation.

Additional SCCS Working Group meetings are scheduled throughout 2026.
