April 2026The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre has launched the Biomedical Models Hub (BimmoH), an AI-driven initiative to build a large-scale dataset of human biology-based models in biomedical research.
BimmoH uses PubMed (39+ million articles) as its primary data source, applying machine learning algorithms to identify, classify, and structure relevant scientific data from titles, abstracts, and MeSH terms.
The platform features an automated data pipeline that retrieves, cleans, and processes research articles, with quarterly updates to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Designed to support evidence-based decision-making, BimmoH benefits researchers, regulators, and policymakers while promoting the EU’s Three Rs principle for reducing animal testing.
Stakeholder input has shaped its development, though improvements are ongoing to enhance metadata quality, expand categories, and refine technical definitions.
