The 44th session of the Codex Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling (CCMAS) will review and update methods of analysis for cocoa products and chocolate, scheduled virtually from 05-08 May 2025 and 14 May 2025. The update follows a 2017 decision to ensure methods in the Recommended Methods of Analysis and Sampling (CXS 234-1999) are fit-for-purpose. The Electronic Working Group (EWG), led by Serbia, has reviewed cocoa and chocolate analysis methods with input from international organizations and experts. Feedback identified the need for updates in areas like fat-free milk solids measurement, moisture testing, and proximate analysis methods. CCMAS44 will consider endorsing proposed changes to CXS 234-1999 and revisions to CXS 87-1981 on non-cocoa butter fats.
